No News is Good News
From My Heart to Yours,
We live in a time of constant communication. I can check my loved ones locations, and text at any moment and hear back almost instantly from those I care about the most. One of the hardest parts of summer camp, is letting your child go away from you for an extended period of time without having a constant pulse on how their day is going. As a mom, I get it. “Is she having fun? Did he wear sunscreen? Are people being nice to her, is he being nice to them? Did she sleep, did she eat?” Oh I could go down that rabbit hole for hours, especially with my neurodivergent child. Each summer when I encourage you to bring your child here to spend time with us, I know that I’m asking something major of you. Please trust me, and this awesome group of counselors with your most precious and cherished person. So how do we do it? How do we drop off our kids, and drive away and not go crazy at home?
The answer is you send them with God. God goes with our children all the places we cannot. There have been days when I drop my kids off and the morning was rough or my heart isn’t settled, and that’s the only way I make it through the day is: “Lord, please go with my child today. Walk with her, guide her, fill her with your love and peace.” The reality is, God is better at it than I am anyway.
And then know this. You are leaving your child with a mother, a father, a bunch of really awesome big siblings, a couple nurses, pastors, and adult volunteers. We will take pictures, and share them as quickly as possible. We answer emails at all hours of the day, and if your child really needs you, I’m going to call you. Until then, no news is good news. Spend your extra time in prayer, send your child an email, and then go do something fun that you can tell them about later!
This time away is good for both you and your camper. Thank you for trusting us.
