Communication & Staying Connected at Camp Horizon
We know sending your child to camp can feel exciting — and sometimes a little nerve-wracking too. Our goal is to help parents stay informed before camp, feel connected during the week, and know how to reach us anytime if needed.
At Camp Horizon, we work hard to communicate clearly and consistently with families before, during, and after camp.
Before Camp
Important Emails & Updates
The primary way we communicate with families is through email.
Before camp, families will receive important information including:
Check-in and check-out details
Packing lists
Medication instructions
Camper mail information
Photo access instructions
Schedule reminders
Emergency procedures
Last-minute updates
Because of this, it is very important that parents:
Use a current and regularly checked email address
Add Camp Horizon emails to safe senders/contact lists
Check spam or promotions folders if emails are missing
Text Message Communication
Camp Horizon also has texting capabilities through our main office number:
620-442-5533
Families who would like to receive text updates should:
Log into their camp registration account
Go to Adult Information Details
Make sure text messaging permissions are enabled
Text messaging may be used for:
Important reminders
Arrival updates
Emergency communication
Last-minute schedule changes
General camp notifications
During Camp
Camp Photos
We know parents love seeing camp in action.
Camp photos are typically shared daily through our camp photo system so families can stay connected to the fun throughout the week. While we cannot guarantee photos of every camper every day, our staff works hard to capture and upload moments from activities, worship, meals, games, and cabin life.
Information about accessing photos will be included in your pre-camp communication.
Camper Mail
Getting mail at camp is a big deal for many campers.
Families may send:
Letters
Encouraging notes
Emails through our camper mail system
Camper mail information and instructions will be shared before camp begins.
Helpful Tips for Camper Mail
Keep messages encouraging and positive
Avoid discussing homesickness or problems at home when possible
Send mail early in the week so campers receive it before camp ends
Emergency Communication
If there is an emergency, parents may contact the camp office at any time.
Our staff can help relay urgent messages or connect families with camp leadership when necessary.
Camp Office Contact
Phone or Text: 620-442-5533
Because camp activities often happen across the property, staff may not answer immediately, but messages are monitored regularly throughout the day.
Cell Phones & Technology
Can Campers Bring Cell Phones?
To help create a distraction-free, relationship-focused, and community-centered experience, campers should not bring cell phones to camp.
One of the greatest gifts of camp is the opportunity for kids to:
Build friendships face-to-face
Engage fully in activities
Spend time outdoors
Grow in confidence and independence
Disconnect from social media and constant notifications
If parents need to communicate with their camper during the week, the camp office is always the best way to reach them.
If a camper brings a phone, camp staff may ask that it be stored safely during the week.
Homesickness & Parent Communication
Homesickness is normal and common — especially for younger or first-time campers.
Our staff are trained to:
Encourage campers
Help them engage in activities
Build friendships and confidence
Support healthy emotional adjustment
Often, campers who are initially homesick end up having an incredible week.
If significant concerns arise, our leadership team will contact parents directly.
After Camp
Many families continue staying connected with Camp Horizon through:
Camp photos
Social media updates
Family events
Retreats and reunions
Future camp registrations
We love seeing campers return year after year and continue growing through the camp community.
Questions?
If you ever have questions before or during camp, we encourage you to reach out. Clear communication and strong partnership with families are important parts of creating a safe and meaningful camp experience for every camper.
